HIGH-LEVEL THEMES IN THE BROADER ECONOMY THIS YEAR…
Corporate Earnings (a main driver of stocks):
Some people may be surprised that the stock market is still holding up so well. To that, I would say stock
prices tend to follow earnings and so far this year, the path of earnings for the S&P 500 Index tells a
powerful story. For earnings season thus far this April, there’s an estimated 13-15% earnings growth year-
over-year. (Source: Factset)
Additionally, earnings expectations remain in double-digit growth territory looking into the remainder of
2026 and into 2027. (Source: Forbes, April 24, 2026).
Inflation – cooling, but not gone:
There was very legitimate concern about a spike in inflation when oil prices spiked. We’ve seen prices
falling in some areas but not across the board – services still runs hotter than the Federal Reserve would
like to see.
Interest Rates still elevated:
The Fed is keeping rates higher to finish the job on inflation. Markets are watching for cuts but the timing
will depends on continued improvements in inflation data.
We hope to see you and your families at the ballpark on May 31 st ! Please call our office next week if you
have any business to take care of before our office closure and enjoy the May flowers after all these April
showers!
